The review

Every other app on this page is a variation on the same product: a large bank of practice questions with explanations, sold by the month. They differ in how many questions, how good the explanations are, and what it costs. NCLEX Kingdom is a different shape. It is a game, with 14 realms, quests, boss battles and a character you build up, and the NCLEX questions are what you answer to make progress in it.

That is not decoration on top of a question bank, it is the reason the thing exists. Almost nobody fails the NCLEX because they ran out of practice questions. They fail because the studying quietly stopped in week three. Every product here solves the content problem, and the content problem is not usually the one you have. This one is aimed squarely at the coming-back problem, which is the one nobody else is really trying to solve.

Underneath the framing the material is conventional and meant to be: 4,000+ questions written to current NCLEX-RN standards, covering seven Next Gen item formats, with written rationales. It runs on iOS, Android and the web with progress synced across all three, so twenty minutes on a phone between shifts picks up exactly where the laptop left off.

We should be straight about the money, because the previous version of this page was not. This is a subscription, the same as everything else here. What is free is the first realm, Verdant Wards, with no account and no card, and it is a real chunk of the game rather than a demo that stops after ten questions. The other 13 realms are $14.99 a month.

Strengths

  • The only product here designed around retention rather than content volume
  • A genuinely free opening realm with no account and no card required
  • Seven Next Gen item formats with written rationales throughout
  • Progress syncs across iOS, Android and web, which suits studying in short bursts
  • Cheaper per month than every paid option on this page

Where we fall short

  • No CAT simulator, so it cannot rehearse exam-day pacing
  • Rationales explain the answer without teaching the surrounding topic in depth
  • The fantasy framing is genuinely not for everyone and there is no plain mode yet
  • Smaller and newer than the established names in this category

Buy it if

The thing standing between you and passing is consistency rather than material. You have a question bank already and you have opened it four times this month.

Skip ours if

You want the best written explanations money can buy, or a full adaptive exam simulation, or the idea of realms and boss battles makes you tired just reading about it.
