The best NCLEX apps, and which one is worth paying for

We build NCLEX prep for a living, which is a conflict of interest and also the reason we know what to look at. One of these five is ours, it is ranked first for one specific reason, and its own entry is the only one on this page with a section on who should skip it.

The shortlist

Ranked on who each one is actually for. We make NCLEX Kingdom, which is first. It is first on one thing only, being easy to keep coming back to. UWorld's question bank is better than ours and its review says so.

01

NCLEX Kingdom We make this oneBest for actually keeping at it

The only one here built as a game rather than a question bank. You work through realms, quests and boss battles instead of an endless queue of practice items, and for a lot of people that is the difference between studying most days and studying twice.

Who should skip itIf the fantasy framing sounds exhausting rather than fun, you will find it exhausting, and that is a fair reason to pick something plainer. Our rationales explain the answer without teaching the whole topic around it, and there is no full adaptive exam simulation yet.

UWorld Best questions and explanations

The deepest question bank here and the rationales read like teaching documents rather than answer keys. If you can afford exactly one paid thing and you learn by reading explanations, this is the one to buy.

Where it losesThe most expensive option on this page by a distance, and after the 7-day trial there is no free tier at all.

03

Archer Review Best exam simulation

The CAT simulator is the closest thing to exam day you can buy, and pacing is what students most often say caught them out. The one to get if you want a real rehearsal rather than more practice questions.

Where it losesRationales justify the answer and stop there, so it tests you better than it teaches you, and access is time-boxed, so a slow study schedule can run out mid-preparation.

SimpleNursing Best teaching

If a concept has not landed after two textbooks, the video explanations here tend to be the ones that make it click. Strongest for people who learn by watching rather than by drilling.

Where it losesThe month-to-month NCLEX price is the highest on this page, and it teaches better than it tests.

Picmonic Best for memorisation

Visual mnemonics that stick for pure recall content: lab values, drug classes, the things you simply have to know cold and keep forgetting. The cheapest thing here, and a supplement rather than a plan.

Where it losesVery little help with clinical judgement, which is most of what the Next Gen exam is testing.

The problem is not finding questions

Nobody fails because they ran out of practice questions. They fail because the studying stopped. NCLEX Kingdom is built as a game for exactly that reason, and you can play the first realm without paying or making an account.

Side by side

The five things students ask us about most. Rows still reading "Not checked yet" have not been confirmed against the vendor's own site. We would rather show a gap than a number we made up.
