The review
Picmonic does one thing and does it unusually well. It turns facts that have no internal logic into absurd illustrated stories, and those stories stick in a way that rereading a list does not. There are 1,400+ nursing mnemonic videos and a large quiz bank built on spaced repetition so the material comes back round before you lose it.
For a specific slice of NCLEX content this is the most efficient tool here. Lab value ranges, drug suffixes and side-effect profiles, isolation precautions, the signs of this versus that electrolyte disturbance: pure recall, no reasoning, and the exact material that evaporates two weeks after you learn it. If you keep losing the same facts, this fixes that.
The limitation is the important part, and it is bigger than it first looks. The Next Gen NCLEX is largely a clinical judgement exam: it gives you a case with changing vital signs and asks what you do first and what you monitor next. Picmonic does not claim a single Next Gen item type anywhere on its site. Its study plans are described as covering the NCLEX "including the Next Generation NCLEX", but there are no case studies, no bowtie, no trend or matrix items. Mnemonics do not teach that reasoning and this product does not try to.
That is not a criticism so much as a description of what it is for. Picmonic makes the recall layer solid so your attention is free for the reasoning layer. Something else has to build the reasoning.
Priced accordingly and honestly. From $12.99 a month or about $67 a year makes it the cheapest paid thing on this page, cheap enough to run alongside a main resource rather than instead of one, which is how it is best used. There are 5 days of free access with no card, and a 7-day full trial if you give one.
